In 1983, Donna called me in to her office on Seventh Avenue and asked if I would like to work her and Louis del Olio them on some jewelry for their fall 1983 ANNE KLEIN show. The relationship flourished and I loved the challenge of designing to fit a particular fashion vocabulary. I created huge volumes of over-the-top jewelry and after the runway shows I would sell it at ARTWEAR.
In 1985, Donna left ANNE KLEIN to start her own company and asked if I wanted to continue our collaboration. When we began to work on her new vision, our collaboration started smoking! The premiere of the DONNA KARAN company with the fall 1985 runway show made fashion history as one of its most exciting moments.
The combination of her black cashmere backdrop for my matte 24k gold jewelry was stunning. The masterful draping she accomplished made the clothes flattering to all women. The look was sensual and sophisticated, demanding soft curvaceous gold jewelry forms that echoed the clothing. Overnight Donna was a world wide sensation, Every detail she showed on the runway, from shoes to hats, bags belts, and jewelry sold out at all the stores that clamored for her attention. So far I have collaborated on 37 separate collections with Donna.
I will be showing and selling much of my jewelry for ‘Donna mixed into my gallery here.
