In 1991 I decided to take a blacksmithing course at the popular HAYSTACK school of crafts, in Maine. The instructor, Douglas Wright, blew me away with the beauty of his iron work, and his teaching ability. I dove into the work like a maniac and found myself in blacksmith heaven, forging red hot iron until I had to plunge it back into9 the fire to reheat the stressed molecules. These bangles are a very fine example of how my work was altered, how I changed my brand image a bit, towards this entirely different look of jewelry, of metal. All the forged metalwork that I did after this fateful course grew into a whole new vocabulary of jewelry forms, and I was proud to have been able to stretch my style yet again after 1991.
This piece is an incredible mass of pure fine silver. Heavy at nearly a half a pound, and marvelous to not only wear, but to prop on a shelf as a sculpture! There is a comparison photo showing the size difference between the set of 3 forged bangles next to this one giant bangle.
