WABI SABI is the Japanese term for impermanence, worn objects, used, aged with character, a look that is one of my most favorite. I have always been drawn to anything that has the look of being worn and filled with soul. In my metal work, this is accomplished first by the form itself, and then by the finish I put on it. Copper, brass, bronze and non ferrous metals can react with oxygen to form surface oxides that can be permanently added in warm earth tones. I use heat to make my copper have a red brick color, and copper sulfate solutions to age the surfaces of my brass, nickel and bronze. When I first launched these Wabi Sabi colors, it was Calvin Klein who recognized the beauty of them and asked me to make this look for his fall 1981 collection, for which I won a Coty award.

This is a pair of 1″wide concave bangles, the are covered with the verdigris oxide. The gorgeous green is a permanent color, but with lots of wear it can change in time. Sold as a set of two, but shown here mixed with many other similar bangles that are also listed on this site.
