At nearly 2 oz of weight, this flower pin is part of a large themed group created in the late 1980’s called The Garden. These flower and vegetation pins were also used as the hardware on the new handbag collection that Morris launched in 1988. The handbags were primarily soft black Napa leather, with signature iconic matte gold plated hardware, and the collection was sold initially through Saks Fifth Avenue. All these pins/hardware designs, were carved from wax by Morris himself, displaying a unique style that is bold and spontaneous. The crazy design of this flower is a good example of how Morris invented new flowers for his unique garden. There is no flower in nature that looks like this, but it is fun to see these wild variations.
