Robert Lee Morris Silver Gobstopper Necklace for Donna Karan 2009

This spectacular Robert Lee Morris Silver Gobstopper Necklace for Donna Karan was part of a fall 2009 collection. The richness of the clothes was emphasized by the use of these massive multi-row neckpieces that were called Gobstoppers. This one is three rows of sterling silver, ending with leather straps that buckled behind the neck. There were also matching bracelets that doubled wrapped with leather straps worn over long gloves for ultra dramatic effect. The top row of this piece is called ball clusters, and are closely joined silver balls that nestle into one another. The second row is called the Log Cabin construction whereby silver tubes are cut into short lengths, capped, and fitted together with a notched technique just like how a log cabin looks at the corners of the construction. the third row is of simple graduated silver ball beads, with a very large ball in the center graduating to smaller and smaller ones as they ascend. This is one of the most major statement necklaces ever made by Morris. It does have some weight to it at 28 oz., or 1 lb, 12oz of silver. The leather straps are in good condition and allow for great adjustability.
