In the mid 1980’s, Ted Muehling created a sensation with his acrylic jewelry. Â Like a magician, he was able to transform plastic into a magical element, using gold or silver leaf on the back, each piece glowed as if made of some unearthly material. The combination of a finely sanded, matte surface, the reflected light and the shapes created a mysterious look, extremely beautiful. I bought a wide variety of his acrylic work and so glad I did as these are now very rare and precious pieces of a master’s touch. The SARDINES were named because of the elongated fish like form, and the MOTH WINGS were exquisitely colored and wing shaped single earrings. The coloration was always very unique, and often with an ombre effect, shaded, and sophisticated. Most of these earrings were sold as singles, when single earrings were all the rage in the 80’s. It was rare to even find two that were exactly alike, as a pair. Extremely lightweight, with 14k gold wire. The coloration is very sophisticated, a gorgeous warm slate gray. Copper leaf back.
