Gloria Lomas, being a Cuban American, who lived and loved in Miami and NYC, created a big bold exuberant style of jewelry in all kinds of inventive techniques. Many of the pieces that I acquired for my private collection were created from lichen, tree mushrooms, that harden into wood and can be dried and painted and worked with like wood. Gloria had a large style presence in every room. Her aura was bright and bold. Her work was intricately made using natural materials, paint, stones, instinct and glue. I admire her style and her strength. When Gloria brought new things like this piece into the gallery, mouths fell open and editors swooned. It is due to the rampant originality and creativity of artists like Gloria that Artwear drew such a large and constant crowd of people.

This amazing necklace is a tour de force. It is a massive assemblage of so many exotic and unidentifiable materials. I think the part that goes around the neck is wood, or lichen, and the constructed leaves, the beaded vines and clusters of berry colored balls, makes this spectacular piece an intense piece of eye candy.
