Wally Gilbert Brutalist Disc Brooch

As part 9f my find grouping of moody dark and mysterious jewelry, this Wally Gilbert brooch is the perfect example of the Brutalist movement in art and design. Obviously world over with the torch whereby melted edges and a darkened surface reveal a reticulated center square with gold fused in a thin coating. The use of rivets and lumpy surface texture are so full of life and emotional expression. Wally is from the UK and he contacted me in the 1980’s to show his work, which I jumped to do as I loved every piece he showed me. His debut at the gallery was within a new talent group show.
